Does a white suit, silver/gray dress shirt and a white tie go?

My dress is dark blue. Do you think a white suit, silver/gray dress shirt and a white tie is a good color combination and would it go with my dress?

It wouldn't clash, but I can't say it would look that good on its own. There are only two times I would wear a white tie: a white bow tie if invited to a state dinner, or a white long tie if I were to reprise my role in the ensemble of 'Guys & Dolls.' With a white suit and silver shirt, the tie would fade in too much- the tie should stand out.

I would go with a light blue shirt and a pale gold tie, maybe with thin blue stripes. When picking a suit, shirt, and tie, I usually try to incorporate three colors. With the silver shirt, I would recommend a patterned tie of some kind- any color so long as it doesn't clash.
