Watchmen v.s. Avengers which is better, more popular?

I have officially ranked Dark Knight as the greatest comic book movie ever by far. But after I just saw its DC-mate Watchmen trailer oh boy here a challenge it looked awesome like comic hero Sin City type of movie. Suprisely I never heard of watchmen and just read that they're were a very successful series of novel. A big hit movie to come in 2011 is The Avengers everybody is getting excited cause they were referred by The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man in the end.The Avengers are pretty much the best tag team of superheros together. But i'm excited for both movies. It's DC v.s. Marvel once again. So which is better in your opinon?

“The Avengers” is a series of comics about a changing group of superheroes that has run for years and the series has had its ups and downs.

“Watchmen” was a series of 12 comics subsequently published as a graphic novel and is generally considered a high point in superhero publishing history, and arguably the best work Alan Moore has written.

Though the characters in “Watchmen” are roughly (usually very roughly) based on Charlton comics characters such as Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, and the Question which had then been acquired by DC, they are not the same as any other characters in other comics and have not appeared again outside of the Watchmen story, other than in a single role-playing game.

In the Watchmen world there was once a superhero group called the Minutemen, roughly corresponding to the Justice Society of America, but the heroes still active at the time of the story don’t belong to any group and never did (except for the Comedian, who was the youngest of the original Minutemen group).

The series received the Kirby Awards for Best Finite Series, Best New Series, Best Writer, and Best Writer/Artist, the Eisner Awards for Best Finite Series, Best Graphic Album, Best Writer, and Best Writer/Artist, and a Hugo Award for Other Forms.

Time Magazine placed “Watchmen” on its list of the 100 Greatest English Language Novels from 1923 to the Present. “Watchmen” was the only graphic novel to be listed. It was also listed in Entertainment Weekly’s 1000th issue as one of the best 50 novels printed in the last 25 years. Stan Lee has stated it is his “all-time favorite comic book outside of Marvel.”

It would be difficult to find anyone who has read “Watchmen” and is a reader of “The Avengers” and considers the latter to be better. However, tastes being what they are, I’m sure a few such people exist.

But as to the films, who knows?

Alan Moore does not consider it possible to make a film of “Watchmen” that can come close to the impact of the book and has refused to have his name connected with the project. He has asked that the royalties due him be given instead to his artist Dave Gibbons.
