Questions About Boarding School?

a friend and i are interested in attending boarding school. we're not troubled or anything, just looking into the possibility for high school. i'm wondering a TON of stuff obviously...can you help with any of these? i've looked at lots of websites and am interested in more...personal experience ^_^

This is from a friend who goes to a co-ed school, Lawrenceville.

1) It's filled with activities, but there's always time to socialize. Classes end at 3, 10 minutes between each class, Wednesday and Saturday, classes end at noon, and you have the rest of the day for club activities, sports, community service, studying, going out, etc.

2) I leave campus once or twice a week. The front street is filled with cafes, and sometimes I go there for dinner with friends instead of the on-campus dinner. Other times, it's for school outings to the mall, the movies, maybe museum, etc. Those are every Saturday (I don't go to every one.) I can get taxis (or sometimes, teachers to drive me [:) to the mall and stuff.

3) Uhh, well sports is a really big part of Lawrenceville so I can't imagine a boarding school without sports. I think all boarding schools offer sports.

4) That depends on the school itself. Mine is strict in freshman year, but it lessens as you get older. Dress code's casual, you can wear spaghetti-straps and short-shorts, but they have to be in good shape (e.g. no ripped jeans). You have to check-in your house at a certain time, the time changes for each grade.

5) Yep.

6) We have a school store, and we can go to the mall / wal-mart / other small places off campus. It's like a mini-CVS, minus the pharmacy and plus school souvenirs and books/notebooks/study stuff. But way cooler than any CVS. Any free time, you can go there if you want.

7) Yup, you can request who you board with. Most of the rooms are single, but if you want a roommate, you can request it...

At our school, you don't have roommates as a freshman, so no. I'm not sure about later on, though. Oh, and all the freshman girls are in one dorm -- the juniors, sophomores, and seniors have other dorms.

Remember, there's a ton of more work than public schools give.... but there's also a ton more memories
