Dressing for the Role of a Speaker

When you are giving a talk as a public speaker, people are there to hear what you have to say, however, they are also interested in your appearance. If you do not look the part, people will comment on it afterwards.  Also consider that pictures are often taken and published in local publications for many events.

Imagine if your outfit looks bad – unfortunately you will be remembered more for this that for the quality of the information you provided. If you have not participated in an event like this before - compare it to events on the television. When you have watched a newscaster share information, if his or her outfit, hair, or make up is distracting in a negative way, you will immediately notice and may not even pay attention to the news.  You would also be looking to see what this person wore the next time you saw them, as you would remember them for their distracting appearance.

You should think about what looks good on you and that you feel comfortable in. A speaker should always be dressed in a formal manner and not have too much skin on show. For example, if you are wearing a smart pant suit, the top underneath should be given careful thought. It is a great idea to aim for ones that have a tank look.  They should start just below the neck, are sleeveless and thin in material. This way, if you are nervous, it will help reduce how hot you get and therefore your perspiration. This is also a great idea if you have a bigger than normal cleavage, as you don’t want to think all the way through your speech that people are just staring at your bosom.

For those women that are comfortable in heels, I appreciate that they are a perfect way to add a complete “look” to your ensemble. However, as a speaker, you will be on your feet for a long time, so it is recommended that you go for boots with a thick heel to avoid any accidental slips and for a more stable base. Also, if you wore a pair of sandals with a high heel, you may spend most of the day worrying about blisters or aching feet rather than the job at hand.

Dress suits can also look great when you are a public speaker. Just make sure that they are not too short, especially if you are at the edge of a raised stage.  Too tightly fitted clothing can make you look like you have gained weight. A fitted jacket that creates a feminine shape without being tight is my personal favorite.  The jacket gives a nice silhouette while hiding any bumps or bulges you may be worried about putting in display for the crowd.  Then you will feel like you can breathe rather than panicking and worrying revealing something you’d rather not.

Just remember, once you have chosen your outfit, you will be able to plan your talk and have one less thing to worry about.

what gauge wire do i use for a 4000 watt amp going to the subs?

i have a soundstorm 4000 watt amp and 2 lanzar optidrive 1232d subs that in combination can handle 4400 watt 2200 rms. my system hits hard but doesnt go louder with volume increase i think it is having a bottle neck conditon in the speaker wire. i am only running 14 or 12 gauge wire i cant remember what one. i am almost positive that i need bigger wire i just wanted to get a second opinion from someone who knows their stuff. thanks alot.

It may be the amp is starving for power if you don't have a high output alternator.

Change out the speaker wire to no more than 10 AWG. If you still have the same problem you'll need to upgrade the alternator.

You should already have the Big 3 and a good battery.

Big 3 - that is to replace (or add to) the power wire between the battery and alternator, the ground from the battery to the chassis and the ground strap from the engine/tranny to the chassis with at least 0 AWG wire.
