Quick And Easy Finishing Touches – Finish A Project With Little $$ And Even Less Time!

Where do you begin a room design? Perhaps you are like me and like to start from the bottom (with the flooring) and work your way up. Another good method is to be inspired by one piece;  it could be an art piece, a piece of fabric or maybe even your grandmother's favorite wing back chair.

Wherever you begin there are always those last details that complete the project. An exciting and visually stimulating way to polish off a good design is with forms of graphic imaging. Here are just a few ways to integrate graphics and/or imaging into your space in a quick and easy fashion:

Two simple steps: peel and stick! I recently purchased some glorified stickers from Ikea. They came on a big sheet and are solid lime green tree branches with smaller shapes of buds and humming birds (trust me, these are modern, cool humming birds, not your mama's birds sitting on a country fence). On the package, there were instructions and example layouts of how you could use the supplied pieces to build a graphic tree on an accent wall. Being a stubborn designer, I could not just use a pre-made design. I laid them out on my wall the opposite way and have them descending from my ceiling line like I was under a weeping willow tree. I love it! It was a quick and simple way to create a punchy accent behind my sofa.  And the best thing: I don't have to repaint when I leave my apartment! Also, the kit only cost about $11! You can get many kits like this online or I have even begun to see them in local hardware stores, but the selection is not as broad.

Another way to integrate simple images is by using all of the old picture frames you can find – they can be thick, thin, ornate or simplistic. The idea is to give them a common theme. For instance, you can take all the frames and paint them one color. After they are a little more consistent, you can arrange them on your wall in an “organized chaos†type of manner. For this, I would stick with all black or white frames. Another option is to do just the opposite and paint all the frames in different color, but be sure to paint them all at the same intensity (so if you are braze and use neon pink, you should match it up with a neon green or neon blue). Also, if you choose all colored frames, I would print all of the pictures in black and white format. This way the frames can be the color accent you are looking for while the photos become the subtle details.

Good luck! And remember, finishing touches are just that – the end. So do not to go too overboard and turn your space into an over stimulating wreck.

What to wear with a neon pink dress?

I got a bright pink dress for this formal dance at the end of the school year. I have no clue what color shoes to wear though! I'm also stumped on what accessories to wear. What colors/accessories should I wear?

Since the dress is a bright color shoes and accessories should be neutral colors.
I think black would be best for the shoes. What type is up to you but imagine the type Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty would wear to the ball at the Palace.

Now accessories: Try these:
1.classy gold or silver ear rings
2. a pearl necklace. Not to big, remember your date/escort will have a corsage to pin to your dress.
2b. maybe a bracelet of either pearls or dark colored stones
on your right wrist.

Just imagine yourself as a beautiful princess like Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella and ask yourself what would they wear to this formal dance. Then find similar items within your budget. Don't forget to save money for a trip to the hair stylist.
Here pick out a hair style from one of your favorite actresses that you and the stylist agree would look good on you. Then let the stylist do his/her work.

Your date has it easy. He will probably wear the following:
White or Blue dress shirt
Either a black tuxedo (very classy) or a dark blue suit. Black suites are for funerals not formal dances.
Dark colored (preferably black) dress shoes
A tie to match your dress
