Canon Imageclass D480 â Light Duty Networking Mfc
This funny looking unit, the Canon imageClass D480, is a fully featured printer/copier designed as a piece of hardware that is affordable, and yet versatile and powerful in all fields. With 23 pages per minute print speed, and excellent paper handling abilities, this multifunctional center delivers a lot of bang for the buck.
Monochrome laser technology, though only able to produce black and white media, is intended for cost effective speed, and quality, and the Canon imageClass D480 is a great example of that. Print resolution can be set at either 600 x 600 dots per inch or 1200 x 600 dots per inch, though copy quality is locked at 600 dpi. With a single cartridge system that yields about 2,000 pages per toner change, and a maximum monthly duty cycle at a limited 7,500 pages, it’s safe to say that this unit was intended for the user or small office with light output demands.
Copy speeds match the printer’s at 23 ppm, and Canon has included most of their standard medium grade features, such as a zoom feature that ranges from 50-200% in single percent increments, which allows for a 2 on 1 mode so you can squeeze two pages worth of imagery onto one. Also included is a large 50 sheet automatic document feeder, which is always helpful when dealing with multiple input sheets for copies or faxes.
Sadly the document glass size is not up to a high end standard, and is only 8.5†x 11.7â€, which is big enough for a letter sized platen scan, but not legal sized. Luckily, with a little help from the ADF, the machine is in fact capable of copying legal size paper without the use of the flatbed, limiting the ability to copy thicker media such as an open book.
Duplexing can also be incorporated with the scanning features, which run off a color contact image sensor for color scans of up to 600 x 1200 dots per inch via optical scan, and up to 9600 x 9600 dots per inch. Once again, we see the same limitations found in copying in scanning thanks to the limited size of the platen document glass. However, all the standard formats are supported includingJPEG, PDF, TIFF, and BMP.
Fax resolution is slightly lower than medium level Canon models, maxing out at super fine res. of up to 203 x 391 dots per inch. If it is an absolute must to have faxing image quality at a maximum, then there are better units out there, but if speed is your only concern than this model will do just fine thanks to theSuper G3 fax modem. There are also eight one touch speed dial buttons dedicated right on the front of the unit.
The Canon imageClass D480 is a quintessential example of a small office level multifunctional unit. For a few hundred more dollars, more powerful units are available, but for the business with lighter usage demands, or even the home user with relatively high output demands, the Canon imageClass D480 may be right on the money.
