Transportation Security Administration (tsa) Update
Last month, Safe Harbors was the host of another information packed event featuring Mr. Ken Fletcher, Assistant Federal Security Director Screening of the TSA. Mr. Fletcher gave insight and tips that can help travelers expedite through security quicker and more efficiently. He mentioned that the biggest hold-ups are prohibited items such as cigarette lighters. Please remember, if a security officer cannot identify why an alarm is triggered, they will continue to search and possibly prohibit you from boarding your flight.
Mr. Fletcher made the following recommendations:
Label your valuables (laptops, camcorders, etc.)
Use a plastic bag for all small items so that nothing becomes lost and is organized for you to find later.
Remove all outer garments and shoes.
If you have medical implants you must have documentation for proof.
Never over pack as it may be difficult to repack if it is searched.

Another part of his discussion was devoted to the Registered Traveler Program. The program is still in it's early stages but the intent is to move frequent fliers through security at a quicker pace. Do I need to lock the carry-in luggage for international travel?
I was wondering if I have to lock my carry-in luggage for the long international travel this weekend. I have 2 TSA locks, and planned to use them for the check-in luggages.
Will an ordinary lock be fine for the carry-in? Or, do I need a TSA? Or, Can I just leave it unlocked?
You do not need to lock your carry-on...should be in your possession all the time anyway. I really prefer to put it under my seat than up above where another person could take it if I am in the bathroom or during the de-boarding confusion.
