Should airlines charge by the pound?

There is a sometimes debate about charging fat people for two seats. Our airlines are spending more on fuel because the average weight is going up. Should skinny people pay less. How about there be a total weight limit for each flight and they sell tickets by the pound at check-in. This could include luggage too so that problem is solved. Bring all you want but pay for it. You can input your weight and luggage weight when making reservation so airlines can plan. Make seats expandable to accommodate fatter people and shrink them down for the skinny ones and sit them together . One fat and one skinny on each side of aisle etc. This seems rational and fair too. If you do not like it, lose weight or take a car or go by ship if its overseas.
Actually I am fat at 250 Lbs and have a hard time in those seats but I am also fair. I would pay extra to get a little more room and I seldom take much luggage. But the cost of first class is way too high for me.

I could like your idea because I’m 125lbs and I don’t have big luggage, just a carry-on, even on a several weeks vacation. I’d rather do manual clothes wash every evening, using fabrics that dries overnight (silk…) than have to deal with carousels or heavy luggage that might get lost.

But, I think heavy people have enough problems as it is. I agree that some seats should accommodate them (like the large ones in first class), so they would not have to pay for two small uncomfortable seats, just one comfortable one.

You want to shrink the seats down for the skinny ones? I don’t think the seats are big enough as it is, even for a person like me but I can stand it, thinking of the poor sweaty heavier person next too me, who looks so much more uncomfortable, squirming like a worm.
What about tall people? Should they pay more for more leg room?

The paradox is that as the general population is gaining weight, the airlines’ seats are getting smaller so they can cram more of them in the same space to make more money, or not lose as much. I’ve been the same weight all my life and the seats were much more comfortable 20 years ago, unless you’re in first class (or business class) and then it’s the opposite… the seats have practically become beds over the years. Probably getting more space from the cramped 2nd class.

While we’re at it, why don’t women pay half price on meals in restaurants, with smaller portions because they do not need to eat as much as men? They’re not paid as much for the same job already, they should not have to pay as much for the same food, especially since they cannot eat it all, so they should pay half price for half the meal. I like restaurants, but I’m tired of having to eat the same thing the next day, for lunch and dinner, because of the eternal doggy bag.
