How to Spot a Fake Prada Sports Shoe

Genuine Prada shoes (in this case, I am referring to a sneaker or trainer, not a high heel or sandal) should have a removable insole.  The insole itself will have a Prada label.  The label should read “PRADA” with “Made in Italy” written below the brand name in a smaller text.  There should be an additional “PRADA” logo beneath the removable insole.  This second logo will also be located in the heel area.  

Look for the embossed upside-down triangle that is the traditional Prada logo.  (This logo is often attached to the tongue of the shoe or to the back of the heel).  The triangle should read “PRADA” on the top line with “MILANO” and “DAL 1913” below the name brand.  Double-check the spelling of all of these words as well as the date.  (It is 1913 not 1931!)  The date is written on what looks like a scroll or ribbon, and there is also a coat of arms depicted below the date.  The logo on the fall/winter collection of 2006 sports shoes also has an embossed, silver circle inscribed within the triangle.  

When you are examining the label and logo, be sure to look for minute details.  For example, the brand Prada is always written in caps locks (PRADA).  It is also written in a font designed specifically for Prada.  (Font buffs can enjoy analyzing the unique Prada seraphs!)  Arm yourself with pictures of genuine Prada shoes from a reputable source (perhaps the Prada website).  You can think of it as an advanced version of that game you probably learned in kindergarten where you compare two pictures and identify “What’s Different” except that hundreds of dollars are at stake.

In addition to the shoes, you will want to inspect the box that the shoes come in.  Genuine Prada shoeboxes do not have Prada written on top of the box.  Instead, the logo is on the side of the box where you also will find information about the size, price and model of the shoes.  Authentic Prada shoes also come with a silver Prada sleeper bag.  The red logo is printed across the front of the bag; the bag’s drawstring should be silver.   
Verifying the specific details mentioned above is important but so is employing basic common sense. Prada shoes are expensive shoes.  Like it or not, an exceptionally low price should be viewed as a sign of a scam and not a miracle.
