What is Cordura?

CORDURA was the registered name of a certified (nylon) fabric from DuPont. Today, it is the registered name of a high-performance Nylon-6,6 product. It is used in a wide range of products from luggage and backpacks to boots, military apparel (such as tactical blade sheaths, ammunition pouches, etc.), and performance apparel.

It is designed to be long-lasting and resistant to abrasions, tears and scuffs.

As a brand name, CORDURA reaches back to 1929 as a development of Rayon. The product was further developed during World War II and used by the military in tires. From 1966 when new formulations of nylon proved superior, the CORDURA brand was transferred to the nylon product instead.

CORDURA has continued to be developed as a brand with new products applied to an increasing range of items such as:

• luggage
• motorcycle clothing
• anywhere that abrasion resistance is important
• sporting and recreational equipment

Cordura is a dense 1000/280 denier weave, but lightweight (about 11 oz. per yard) and breathable. It has excellent resistance to scuffing and pilling under demanding conditions. Its new super-softness makes it comfortable as well as stylish and functional.  CORDURA fabric is what the most respected brands, retailers and militaries around the world use when they need to make a product that’s durable, versatile and reliable. Constructed using high tenacity fiber technologies, ounce for ounce, CORDURA fabrics are more durable than comparable unbranded fabrics. Has anyone ever snuck their dog on an airplane? How?

I need to get my dog home for Christmas, but westjet has a pet embargo on for the dates I am flying - something to do with an excessive amount of luggage expected so no room for pets.
My dog is big and won't fit in a carry-on.
I spoke with a westjet agent who said if I can either get my dog a service dog certificate, prove that I am a certified trainer for service dogs, or else get a note from a doctor to prove that I need my pet on board with me, then he will be allowed on board.
I am no actress. How do I convince a doctor to deem me mentally unable to be without my pet?
Anyone ever pulled this off before?

Do you really want your doctor to put a permanent note in your chart that you are disabled by mental illness? Insurance companies could use that to deny you or charge you outrageous premiums.

Please do not miss represent your dog as a service dog. First it is illegal. Second, if the dog misbehaves on the plane there is nowhere to go. Flying (especially during the Christmas rush) is very stressful for a dog. S/he needs to do a long down stay crammed under the seat in front of you. The dog must stay within your foot space. The floor of the plane is cold, vibrating, and tilts unexpectedly. There are loud noises from the engines. If your dog does not behave on a flight the airline can and most likely will refuse to allow the dog on any remaining flights leaving you stranded. Finally fakers make life harder for people who actually need a service dog. The rules were recently changed that people traveling with psychiatric service dogs (trained) and emotional support animals must contact the airline 48 hours in advance.

Please get a pet sitter, board your dog, drive where your going, take a different airline. Do not break the law!
