I heard about this story in which a cat snuck onto a piece of luggage and accidentally got carried into an airplane and flew from Florida to Texas. I have to know how that cat could get through all that security?

To answer your question, the cat in question did not go through passenger security, the cat went through baggage security. The bag with the cat goes through 1 machine which is called a CTX machine. These machines search for prohibited items and give the screener a 3d image of the bag. The cat in question would come up as an organic item in the bag thus blending in with all other things in the bag that were also organic (clothes, shoes, food, etc.). The cat in question is not on the prohibited items list thus the computer would not detect it, also being that it blends in the screener would have a hard time seeing the cat also. After the machine the bag goes into a waiting area with many other bags which would make seeing small movements by the cat in the bag not noticable. After that the bag is loaded onto the plane. when the plane arrives they just unload again and you receive your bags. Thankfully the cat is well.
