Could any laptop dvd burner fit in my dell inspiron 510m?

I have a dell inspiron 510m, the dvd burner is buggered. Could i put any laptop dvd burner in it? It currently has an NEC ND-6650A, it is a removable drive. Can i remove the burner from the dell removable case and replace it with a different burner? i dont know if i can take the burner out of the dell sleeve case thingo, has anybody succesfully done this?? Thanks
