10 Ways To Expand Your Social Circle In College Or High School

Having friends and building a social network of people is important while in college. Some of these people you could be working with, become great friends and stay in touch with for the rest of your life. So expanding your social circle is extremely important. Here are 10 ways to do so.

1. Facebook
Facebook is an amazing way to build a big social circle at your school. Key is not to befriend everyone. Start requesting friendships on Facebook with people who are in your classes, who you see around campus on daily basis. Most people will be flattered. Take the lead and initiate the friendship first with people you come in contact with on regular basis.

2. Go to school events
Like most colleges, I'm sure your campus has weekly if not daily events that are happening around campus. From gallery openings to fundraiser and volunteering. Decide on what days you are going to show up and get yourself involved in any of these activities. For example, you can dedicate early morning on Saturdays and every Wednesday. Dedicating a day or two will make you follow through.

3. Sit in the front of the class
People who tend to sit in the back on average are not social. I used to sit in the back because I was afraid a teacher would call me upon and everyone else behind me would look at me.

How silly was I.

Everyone else was too worried about himself or herself to be worried about me. That's a big part of college is growing up and overcoming your self-esteem problems.

Sit up front, answer questions. People will start to know who you are because they see you up front when you walk in and walk out. They may not speak to you but when you strike up a conversation with them outside of class, guess what? They will feel like they know you. This happened to me too many times. Outside of class you tend to connect fellow classmates because they feel like they already know you.

4. Hangout in the Cafeteria
Cafeteria can be a very intimidating place. That is something you are going to have to get over. I know it will be tough sitting by yourself. So if you don't feel confident yet to do so, find someone who you already know or someone from your class. They usually sit with their friends too. So they will most likely introduce you to them and you are already expanding your circle.

5. Talk to people in your class, when you are outside of class
Chat people up outside of class who are in your class. Ultimately you want to chat everyone up. But if you don't feel comfortable with talking to complete strangers, then start with people you see on daily basis and who are in the same classes as you.

6. Email
Email short questions to your fellow classmates that you don't know just yet. Make sure you ask them something that will not take a lot of time from them.

Time is very valuable to everyone. So if the don't know you and you ask them for something that will take more then 10 minutes, they will most likely turn you down by not responding.

Key is to be short and sweet. Asking about a follow up homework assignment or something like that.

To give you an example of something I would say, "Hey I missed class. I know everyone missed me in there so I wanted to ask you if we had any homework?" or something like that. I tend to be a bit cocky and funny when I talk to people who don't know me. It releases the tension. So whatever your approach is, use it.

7. Say hi to someone new daily
As you walk to class and around campus, say hi to someone.

That's it.

Say hi as you walk by them and keep walking. If it's a girl. Awesome! If it's a guy and you are a guy, just nod with your head and say what's up. That's it. Nothing more nothing less. Think of how many people do this. Probably not a lot. You will be one of the few.

8. Help someone out
Help someone out with his or her homework. You see someone struggling carrying heavy shit to class. Help them out. Someone dropped something, pick it up. Hold a door for someone. They will remember you. I guarantee it.

9. Join a club
Join any club on campus. This is by far the best way to increase your social circle. Join the clubs that you will enjoy going to. Never join if you are not interested. People will see right through that. Worse off, you'll know that you don't care to be there. So join clubs that you would enjoy to be in.

10. Organize an event
Facebook is an amazing tool. Use it very wisely. Set up a party or some sort of an event. Create an event on Facebook. Then invite people who you befriended in step one.

80/20 rule.

For every 10 people you invite 2 will show up for sure. This is not set in stone, but it proved most times to be true.

If you do all these I promise that your social circle will increase. You just have to spend the time and dedicate yourself to why you want to increase your social circle and how you are going to do it.

Is a 16 inch expandable baton concealable in a pocket?

Title basically says it all, here in Kansas I believe I have read it right where anyone can carry one so I am thinking about buying one but wonder if they are little enough to put in a pocket and I don't even plan on using it I just want something in case that need comes.

Not really. You look like a guy who puts a potato in his pants to impress girls. Your gait is off and you have trouble sitting and getting into and out of cars.
More important a collapsible baton, especially one that only expands to 16", is useless as a self defense tool. You have to be to close to your attacker to use it. Also you really need training and regular practice on who to use it.
I'm certified in both Manodnock and ASP and would never carry one for self defense. They are offensive and close in weapons.
I would carry quality pepper spray. Step away from the bad guy, spray and run away.
